In 2014, there was one intercollegiate esports program, now there are over 270 intercollegiate programs that are part of a global esports industry with over $1 billion in revenue and more than 500 million viewers. In December 2019, Oakland University became the first NCAA Division I school in Michigan to create a varsity esports program. Learn how esports aligns with the University's strategic goals and intercollegiate athletics program in this talk with OU Athletic Director Steven Waterfield.
