Philip Hart: A Man of Steel
After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School and surviving a June 6, 1944, landing on Utah Beach, Philip Hart settled in Michigan. He served as lieutenant governor under Governor G. Mennen Williams before moving on to the U.S. Senate in 1958. During his eighteen years in the capital, Hart earned his colleagues’ admiration and the nickname “Conscience of the Senate.” Join MSU History Professor Roger Rosentreter as he explores the legacy of this important politician.
