Instructor: DIA Docents
The Detroit Institute of Arts is teaming up with the MORE Program again! This time, the experience starts with a presentation focused on the DIA's current exhibits, unlike previous tours. After this orientation, DIA docents will support our journey through the museum as we experience these exhibits for ourselves. In addition, the DIA is a great place for lunch (on your own) and for general browsing too. Here is a short summary of the exhibits:- The Art of Dining: Food Culture in the Islamic World brings together more than 200 works from the Middle East, Egypt, Central and South Asia and beyond to explore connections between art and cuisine from ancient times to the present day.
- Artist Tiff Massey merges her art practice with meaningful community engagement to explore the relationship between identity, public space and community in her "7 Mile + Livernois" exhibit.
- In addition, the traditional celebration of Dia de Muertos exhibit will also be on display.
This is not a DIA tour to miss!
About the Presenter: A knowledgeable museum docent will provide an in-person lecture to orient MORE attendees at the DIA. Other docents will support attendees touring the exhibit.
Attendees will meet at the University Center at 9:45am to check in and board the bus at 10am. Following our lecture (11am-12pm) and guided tour (12-1pm), there will be time to tour the museum on your own (1-3pm). Lunch is available for purchase at Cafe DIA or Kresge Court. The bus will depart from the DIA at approximately 3pm and return us to the college at approximately 4pm. This event is limited to 50 attendees. Thanks to the generosity of the DIA in providing bus transportation for this event there will be no additional event fee!
