Instructor: Docents
Located on Detroit's East Jefferson Avenue, this tudor-style building was constructed in 1907 and is one of the oldest continuously operating potteries in the nation. Please join us for this one-hour docent-led tour where participants will learn more about Pewabic's rich history by working their way through our historic museum and current fabrication studio areas.
During a one-hour private workshop, participants will choose from one of three tile designs and learn how to glaze in the same way as Pewabic's fabrication team. Once fired, MORE staff will pick up all of the tiles and notify you when they are available for you to pick up on campus.
Pewabic has free parking lots in front of the pottery. Street parking may also be found on Jefferson Avenue and along side streets in the neighborhood around Pewabic. As a historic building, Pewabic was constructed prior to ADA regulations; handicap-accessible parking spaces are in front of the pottery and there is a ramp to the front patio (call the number on the sign next to the front door for assistance with the ramp into the pottery itself). Note, that the History Museum part of the building is located on the second floor with stair access only.
We will meet at Pewabic Pottery, 10125 E Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Ml 48214.
A map will be provided a few days prior to this event.
This event is limited to 50 attendees and has an additional event fee of $31.
