Instructor: Michael Hauser

At its peak in the 1950s, downtown Detroit's Woodward Avenue boasted over four million square feet of retail space, making it one of America's preferred retail destinations. This presentation will take a closer look at some of our home-grown icons such as Hudson's, as well as other retailers such as Sam's, Woolworth's and Fyfe's Shoes. Generations made the trek downtown for back-to-school events, Easter shows, holiday windows and family luncheons. The presentation will also include images, vintage ads and catalogs, and architectural elements from some of your favorite downtown emporiums. The presentation will end with a question-and-answer session and an opportunity for guests to express personal remembrances.

About the Presenter: Mr. Hauser's retail experience includes being sales promotion manager for Herpolsheimer's department stores in Grand Rapids, creative services manager for La-Z-Boy Chair Co., and men's tailored furnishings associate for Hudson's. He has degrees from Aquinas College and Michigan State University. Mr. Hauser is one of our most popular presenters-we appreciate his continued support of the MORE program.
