    About the presentation

The history of Michigan’s Kirtland’s Warbler includes successful efforts to prevent extinction. Even though the warbler was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2019, all the work that was done to prevent its extinction must continue for as far as we can see into the future. That’s because the warbler is the first “conservation reliant” species to come off the Endangered Species List. Its ongoing conservation requires building a new model for recovered species, which if successful, should help many other species to come off the List.

“About the Presenter: William Rapai is the executive director of Kirtland’s Warbler Alliance, a nonprofit organization created to help support Kirtland’s Warbler conservation. His interest does not stem from being a biologist or a forester; rather, his background is in journalism. Rapai was an editor of the Detroit Free Press in the early 1990s and served as an editor and page designer for the Boston Globe. He is the author of three books.”
