    About the presentation

Citizen participation is an essential component of any democratic government. This engaging course seeks to provide Michigan seniors with an inside look at the legislative process, how things actually get done in Lansing, and the powerful role ordinary citizens can play in driving change in their communities and across the state. Senator Hertel will draw on recent legislative efforts — including the retirement tax repeal and the 2026 State Budget — to guide the discussion and ground the course in real-world examples.
