  • About the presentation

The astonishingly rapid rise of the aircraft carrier as the primary naval capital ship is chronicled in this class series. Part I covers the background of naval technology beginning with the “steam and steel age” and continues through nascent naval aviation activities and developments that led to the legendary aircraft carrier battles of 1942. These classic confrontations encompass such important actions as the Battles of Coral Sea and Midway, which established the carrier as the critical naval asset.
