    About the presentation

“That’s here. That’s us. That’s home” is part of Carl Sagan’s famous “Pale Blue Dot” quote about planet Earth, as seen from a great distance in space by Voyager 1. Building from Sagan’s passionate plea for humanity to be kinder to each other and cherish the planet we’ve evolved on, the focus of this class will be on the beauty and processes of the physical earth. This class will provide insight on many physical geology topics including how Earth is structured, how elements are the building blocks of rocks and minerals, and how Michigan’s shape (the mitten) was sculpted by a massive ice sheet during the last glacial maximum.
