This course offers an exploration of the development of film from its inception to the early postwar world of the 1950s. We will take a brief look at the technological, artistic and cultural evolution of cinema, its impact on society, and role as a powerful medium of expression. The topic will be illustrated by reviewing film clips from each decade, with an enjoyable class discussion encouraged. Part II of the course will be held during a later class Session.
“About the Presenter: Dawn Barath had taught English Language Arts for 35 years when she decided to retire in 2023. While teaching she developed a film course for Lake Shore High School which has served her audience well, and has been able to take that knowledge to create this course for MORE. In addition to film Dawn enjoys yoga, gardening, and book clubs. Her favorite pastime is pottery. Dawn is also a Library Trustee for the Harrison Township Library. ”
